The Moirai Legend
Aug. 26th, 2012 05:19 pmOnce, when the Earth was very young and the Universe very old, three travelers from the future came to mold the past to ensure their races survival. They were the Moirai, an advanced human civilization evolved from a human colony formed on Planet Moirai Major only 900 years before the destruction of Earth. Whereas the Moirai are descendent from human beings, the planet that they inhabited already had a sentinent life form present, Ambroisium, a nature-based microbe that infected the hosts and, over generations, fused with their very DNA. The Children of Moirai age very slowly, sometimes living for a number of centuries before dying and are incredibly strong and heal rapidly. When the Ancient (or rather, new) Greek civilization saw that they could not be harmed by their swords, spears and other archiaic (or advanced) weapons, they believed them Gods. But the Moirai can die. Oh, they can die such horrible deaths. Maybe not easily but, as the Atropian prophecy fortold, they did die most painfully in the Ananke War against an enemy they called the Unforeseen. Only a handful survived and scattered across the universe. But one member from each of the three great families escaped and time traveled together to the past. They were Clotho, Lachesis, Atropos. There they sowed the seeds of their "human" bloodline and embedded the future races survival. They lived their long lives umong the humans, subtlely influcing their fate, getting the name "the Moirai" (The Fates) from them and teaching them a great many things and, in the process, (re)creating their race's future but with subtle--accidental--changes.
Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos passed into legend (and one might wonder how anyone could even remember it) but their race survived. The three families were now three clans-yes, Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos. They controlled the metaphorical thread of life of every mortal on Moirai Major and those who were bound to their bloodline from birth to death no matter how far into the future or past. They were independent, at the helm of necessity, directed fate, and watched that the fate assigned to every being by eternal laws might take its course without obstruction.
Whether the sentinent being within the planet inbued them with the powers to "see" either the past, present or future (each clan has one of those gifts but not all) or their time traveling infused their future selves with these abilities by changing the future, is unknown.
The Moirai believe in the concept of a universal principle of natural order which relies on each clan doing their part to make this process work.
